Over the past number of years, we have had many questions and queries.We felt that you may wish to review these as there is additional useful information contained in this section:

Q.Who will I be sharing with? If you want to share with a friend(s), you can request this when applying and we will try to accommodate your request. However this cannot be guaranteed. Otherwise the allocation of rooms is on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis.The Accommodation Managers objective will be to match students by course of study (whether that be undergraduate or post-graduate), by age, by gender, by nationality.

Q.What will my address be? The following is an example of how your mail should be addressed.

Mr/Ms Joe Bloggs Apartment Number XX Block 1 (or 2), Griffith Halls of Residence, Griffith College Dublin, South Circular Road, Dublin 8.
Incorrect postal addresses will delay the delivery of your post.

Q. I would like to bring my car to Griffith College. Are car parking facilities available?
Yes, there is on-campus car parking free of charge.

Q.Will I be allowed to have guests or friends stay over? No, under the terms of the license agreement, you will not be allowed to have guests or friends stay over.

Q.What if I change my mind or find alternative accommodation? Do I get my deposit back? Once you have been offered a bed space, your deposit is non-refundable and you are also responsible for paying all the rental charges for the entire duration of the lease.

Q. I have a medical condition and therefore require on campus accommodation. Do I get preferential treatment? A number of rooms are specially designed for wheelchair users and these students do get a preference in the allocation of rooms. However, you must specify this when applying and we will require your Consultant/Specialist to confirm same in writing to us.

Q.When can I move in? Students can move in from the 6th September 2011. Students must contact the accommodation office to schedule a check-in. Email ghr-reception@gcd.ie with your check in time.

Q.What if I arrive in Dublin before this date – will I be allowed to go straight to my room? No. unfortunately for insurance reasons we cannot allow you to move in prior to the date on your occupancy licence.You can contact the Accommodation Office for a list of local hotels and guesthouses.

Q.Will my room or apartment be cleaned on a weekly or monthly basis?
The apartments are self-catering and therefore you and your fellow residents are responsible for the cleaning of your bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living room.

Q.What should I bring with me when I am moving in? You need to bring your own bed linen, duvets and pillows. You also need to bring cutlery and crockery. We do supply a kettle, toaster, iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner.

Q.What facilities are included? All our accommodation is self-catering i.e. you must do your own cooking and provide your own bed linen.

Q.Are there facilities for washing laundry? Yes, subsidised self service laundry facilities are located in the basement.


Q. Can I bring my own soft furnishings to the Halls of Residence?
Soft furnishings such as bean bags and floor cushions are a potential fire risk and are therefore not allowed. All furniture supplied in the Halls of Residence is fire rated.


Q.Are there TVs in the apartment?
Yes. TVs are supplied, be aware that a TV license is required by law, available from the local post office.
Q. Is there anything else I should bring along? Bring a positive attitude and a flexible, adaptable outlook.You will be living with other students who may not share your particular beliefs, views or habits. Respecting others will be part and parcel of your academic career.


Q.What should I definitely NOT bring?
Don’t bring pets, large bulky items, deep fat fryers, candles etc. Also ensure that all electrical appliances meet the proper electrical safety standards.


Q. Can I smoke anywhere in the Halls of Residence?
Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the Griffith Halls of Residence.


Q.Will I be allocated an apartment with mixed gender?
No, the Accommodation Manager will allocate apartments on a reasonable basis taking into account all information on the application form.Their objective will be to match students by course of study (whether that be undergraduate or post-graduate), by age, by gender, by nationality.

Q. Do the rooms have telephones and computer network points?

*Free internet connectivity is available in each bedroom in the Halls of Residences.There are pay phones located in the lobby of each block. *Internet access is limited to internet browsing only. You will not be permitted to use file sharing programs or any other programs except browsers (i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera or Safari).


Q.Are the room contents insured?
The contents of your room are not insured.We do advise that you take out your own   insurance or extend your home insurance to include your possessions.


Q.What are the rules of the Residences?
Once you have been offered a room, you will be required to sign an Occupancy License which details the terms and conditions of living in Halls of Residences. Offers are made subject to acceptance of these conditions. A copy of the Occupancy License is available on request.

Q.What are the opening hours of the Accommodation Office? During the summer we are open seven days a week from 9am - 8pm. During the academic year we are open Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:30pm. Outside these hours and at weekends, our security staff is available in the event of emergencies.

Q.What is the role of Security? Security carry out regular external patrols of the Residences out of office hours. Residents are responsible for their own security, that of their apartment and their possessions. Residents should ensure that they have their key fobs and ID cards on their person at all times. Giving access to residents who are locked out is not a priority for Security and may mean that you will have to wait before they can reach you. So don't forget your key fob.
